ROBIN DAVIESwas best remembered for his childhood role in the children’s fantasy series Catweazle.
One of the most fondly remembered children’s television shows, Catweazle (1969-70) featured a dishevelled 11th century wizard transported through time and into the life of life of 1960s teenager Edward ‘Carrot’ Bennet, played by Davies.
Other notable appearances of the era include playing schoolboy Machin in Lindsay Anderson’s British new wave classic If.... (1968), Steve in the The Magnificent Six and ½ series (1967-69) and Simon in the sitcom And Mother Makes Three (1971-76).
He continued to act into adulthood with prominent parts in the drama serials A Moment in Time (1979), Spearhead (1978) and Trainer (1991).
He appeared in Anderson’s Britannia Hospital (1982) with Leonard Rossiter and the hit film Shakespeare in Love (1998).
He also acted on the stage and wrote scripts, enjoying a twenty-year association with the Leeds City Varieties theatre.
He died from cancer on 22 February, 2010, aged 56, and was survived by survived by his wife of 28 years, Venetia, and their three children India, Alice and Will.
