Reverend Ian Donald HallROBINSThe Reverend Ian Donald Hall Robins born in Croydon 30th June 1928. Priest/Teacher/R.E. Advisor, died 25th October 2022. The dearly loved husband of Gertrude, a dear foster father of Christine and the late Joyce and Jaqueline, also a dearest grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather. Having lived a full and long life…In 1930 moved to St. George’s, Leeds and then the Crypt was opened at the start of the depression. Evacuated to Appletreewick 1939, Pacifist. 1948 Worked in a London hospital, then sent to work in an orphanage in France, whilst there his Father died. On demob. went to Kings London rather than wait a year for a place at Cambridge. Graduated BD. AKC, One year Warminster College. 8th June 1952 Ordained at Blackburn Cathedral. Curate, St. Anne’s on sea Parish Church. Priested May 1953. Married Gertrude 9th July 1955, Curate St. Mary Magdalen Parish Church, Clitheroe. 1957-67 Vicar of Trawden, during this time Ian and Gertrude became Foster parents to three young sisters, he also did a number of epilogue’s for the BBC and ITV and a series of peoples services which followed Brian Matthews on Easy Beat and insisted that we came on air singing an up to date hymn accompanied by the jazz trio of piano, double base and vibraphone. Resigned as the Bishop would not allow baptism to be delayed for preparation of the parents helping them to understand the vows they were making. 1967 became head of R.E. St. Christopher’s, Accrington. Presented a petition to the liturgical committee and delaying baptism was allowed for the preparation of the parents understanding the vows they were making, which then became law. He then became Priest in Charge of Ings and R.E. Advisor in Carlisle Diocese 1975-1982, producing guidelines for primary school R.E. secondary school teachers asked for something similar. 1973 did a masters degree at Lancaster hoping to study Islam however was unable to as there were no lectures. Returned to St.Christopher’s. 1982-86, Chaplain St. Martins College, Lancaster. 1986 Vicar of St. Margaret’s, St. Anne’s On-Sea. New G.P. (whose father was a priest) advised him to retire, after about a year he was able to conduct Sunday services and induction course’s at Chorley College and often took assembly’s at school’s. After surgery health was worsening and so sold our beloved cottage in Painterwood and moved to a ground floor flat in Whalley. He had bad arthritis and received regular cortisone injections and could no longer play the organ and piano. Became housebound due to post operative complications, however, was always immaculately presented despite it being an effort. He was admitted to hospital on the 17th of September with pneumonia and contracted covid and died in the early hours of Tuesday the 25th of October with Gertrude at his side. A service will be held at Whalley Parish Church on Friday 11th November 2022 at 1pm with light refreshments after at Whalley Abbey, a private Cremation will follow. No flowers by request. Donations in lieu if desired are invited for Whalley Parish Church and St. George’s Crypt Leeds and maybe given to a family member, left at Church or sent c/o Whalley Parish Church Office, Church Lane, Whalley, BB7 9SY.
