Evacuated to Appletreewick 1939, Pacifist. 1948 Worked in a London hospital, then sent to work in an orphanage in France, whilst there his Father died. Resigned as the Bishop would not allow baptism to be delayed for preparation of the parents helping them to understand the vows they were making. 1967 became head of R.E. St. Christopher’s, Accrington. Presented a petition to the liturgical committee and delaying baptism was allowed for the preparation of the parents understanding the vows they were making, which then became law. He then became Priest in Charge of Ings and R.E. Advisor in Carlisle Diocese 1975-1982, producing guidelines for primary school R.E. secondary school teachers asked for something similar. 1973 did a masters degree at Lancaster hoping to study Islam however was unable to as there were no lectures. After surgery health was worsening and so sold our beloved cottage in Painterwood and moved to a ground floor flat in Whalley. He had bad arthritis and received regular cortisone injections and could no longer play the organ and piano. He was admitted to hospital on the 17th of September with pneumonia and contracted covid and died in the early hours of Tuesday the 25th of October with Gertrude at his side. Dear Gertrude, my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Ian, a very dear friend who helped me so much in setting up a Healing Group With Rev. John Birbeck at Mitton Parish Church. Your friendship and example of true Christian living will never be forgotten. May you be comforted by the knowledge that you are both held in such high regard. God Bless, Jim Fenton.
