BernardROBINSONDied suddenly at home on October 23, aged 73 years. He was a loyal, kind and valued friend to many and is already sadly missed by all who knew him. Though a plumber by trade, Bernard derived much of his pleasure from the natural world; he was a keen fisherman and spent many hours fishing the Scottish lochs, the British coast and our local rivers. He was as happy in the solitude of nature as he was in the company of friends. In the 1980s Bernard was rarely seen without his feisty Jack Russell, Wellie, at his side. Once a competitive and very successful bodybuilder, Bernard took his personal fitness seriously throughout his life. He was a lover of music, especially the blues, and was a familiar face in The Heys and the ‘Ossy Con’, where his ready wit, his generosity and his laconic sense of humour won him many friends. Bernard was the only child of the late Robert and May Robinson of Kay Street, Oswaldtwistle. He leaves behind his first cousins, Mary, Tony, Carol, Tom, Graham, Catherine, Jacqueline and Vivien and relatives Rob and Eddie. However, it was Bernard’s long-standing friends who interacted with him daily. Amongst those feeling his loss are Geoff, Ellen, Nick, Lisa, Paul, Frank, Liz, Val and Graham. His remaining family extend their sympathy and thanks for the love his many friends have shown Bernard over the years and for their practical help and support in the last few days. A requiem mass for Bernard will take place on Thursday, November 17 at 10.15am at St Mary’s RC Church, Oswaldtwistle, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematorium and a reception at Oswaldtwistle Social Club. Family flowers only please, but donations are being gratefully received in memory of Bernard on behalf of The Stroke Association.
