LeslieROOKSMr Leslie David Rooks passed away on Saturday, July 24, aged 82. He grew up with his sister Kate Birtles and his parents on William Street, Accrington. Leslie attended Accrington Grammar School and went onto Bolton Technical College to excel in Electrical engineering. From here he went on to work as an apprentice for Pye Television in Cambridge, graduating as a certified Radio Engineer from “The British Institution of Radio Engineers”. To complement his sister’s acting he was also an active member of the Accrington Amateur Dramatics Society. He would help with lighting and technical elements of upcoming productions, proving to be a vital and generous member of the team. Leslie was also a keen and active Radio Ham known as “G3PUO” by many. In 1965 he landed his forever job at Granada Television as a technical assistant. Leslie enjoyed his role at Granada thoroughly and upon early retirement he took the opportunity to travel the world - travelling across Europe, Asia, Australia, America, Canada, everywhere! Aside from Leslie’s vast accomplishments he was also tremendously kind, accumulating a great deal of friends along the way that loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed by his family; niece Susie, nephew Jamie, great-niece Abbie and all that were fortunate enough to have known him. The funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Wednesday, August 4 at 3pm.
