IvanROSBOTHAMSuddenly, but ending a battle with an illness so bravely fought, Ivan Rosbotham, of Accrington, passed away on Thursday, September 8, aged 80, surrounded by his family at Airedale General Hospital. Ivan was born in Belfast but moved to Accrington in 1972 where he spent the remainder of his life with his beloved wife Mary, whom he was married to for 54 years. Ivan was the cherished father of Pauline, Sharon, Anne-Marie and Ivan Jr and father-in-law to Peter, Andrew and Kelly. A precious and much-loved grandad to Thomas, Emma, Oliver, Paige, Mackenzie, Ellie, Finley, Oliver, and great-grandad to Harrison and Zachery. He was also a very dear brother, brother-in-law and uncle. For most of his working life whilst in Accrington, he worked at Platt Saco Lowell and in later years for Hyndburn Borough Council as a porter in the markets department, where he was well-known and respected by many of the stallholders. Ivan enjoyed football and played with his brother David for local teams during his younger years. He also represented Platt in the local domino league for many years. He was a well-known parishioner and regular worshipper at St Joseph’s RC Church until he was unable to attend due to illness. A devoted family man, Ivan spent much of his time with his wife, children and grandchildren whom he loved very much, creating special memories which will never be forgotten. He was highly respected by all who knew him and has been regularly described as a lovely, quiet and hard working man. He will be greatly missed. The family of Ivan would like to request donations in lieu of flowers to the Airedale Hospital & Community Charity who offered much needed care, comfort and support to Ivan and his family during his final hours. A Requiem Mass will be held at St. Joseph's R.C. Church at 10:00am on Tuesday 11th October 2022 followed by a Burial in Accrington Cemetery at 11:30am.
