EvelynRUSHTONEvelyn Rushton, nee Nichols, of Whitecroft View, Baxenden, and more recently The Woodlands HFE, passed away peacefully at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Sunday, February 20, aged 84. She was born in Burnley, and moved to Baxenden when she was 16, as her parents bought the confectioners opposite the ‘mission’ on Manchester Road. She began her working life as a sewing machinist at Warburtons on Victoria Street, Accrington. Evelyn met and married her late husband Jack in September 1958 at Baxenden St John’s Church. After a short spell living in Burnley, she came back to Baxenden, and worked part-time at Prices Bakery and Womble Inn, whilst her son and daughter were at school. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker, and was always immaculately dressed. She loved discussing makeup tips with her granddaughters. She loved her holidays abroad, as she was a real sun worshipper. She also enjoyed Saturday nights up ‘Bash Con’ with Jack, and their best friends George and Shirley. She was the dearly loved wife of the late Jack, adored and much-loved mum of Beverley and David, dearly loved gran of Charlotte, Robert, and Brittany, much loved ‘little nana’ to great-grandsons Joshua and Jacob, loved and respected mother-in-law of Tony and Andrea, dearly loved sister of Raymond, and sister-in-law of Joyce, and aunty to Michelle. The family would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Gina and all the staff at the Woodlands who cared for Evelyn with the utmost love and respect. The funeral will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Friday, March 4, at 2.20pm, led by Neil Overton. Family flowers only, but donations for Woodlands Amenities Fund would be greatly appreciated, c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
