ChrisRYANOur beloved Chris Ryan passed away on 3rd March aged 79 years. He was a very proud and loyal father, grandfather (affectionately known as 'Pops'), brother, husband, friend and colleague to many. All who knew him will miss him dearly and will fondly look back at the legacy he has left behind. He was a devoted NHS family GP, helped countless people through Rotary, showed unwavering loyalty to the church and, unbeknown to the family until recently, had been sponsoring a boy called Varun through school in India. Not one to take himself too seriously, he was also known for his humour and, at times, questionable attire - like when he would casually say hello to his patients while nipping into Sainsbury's wearing nothing but Speedos and wellington boots on a hot summer's day. This is one of many stories of Chris shared by his family and friends. He will also be remembered for his infectious laugh and his ability to light up any room. Chris loved nothing more than to swap stories around the dinner table and be in the company of others. Family and friends will be honouring Chris's life on Monday 7th April, at 2pm at St. Swithun's Church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations in Chris's memory to support ongoing fundraising efforts.

Chris Ryan, a legend who did so much for others. We miss him at our Wednesday lunches, he always had a smile and a witty comment. My outstanding memory was being at Trent Bridge with Chris and others watching Stuart Broad destroying Australia before lunch. Well, we were watching but Chris, wearing his usual sun hat, was immersed in the Daily Telegraph obituaries! In recent times Chris has kept me going through dark days, even though he was suffering himself. Goodbye my friend.

My dear friend Chris.
What can I say? Such a lovely guy, with a wry sense of humour, an encyclopeadic knowledge of medicine, a strong family man. A man who was also gifted with an ear for the Irish lilting tunes & airs, sadly belied by his rendition of the same. A man blessed with one of the best drives of a ball off a golfing tee that you would ever have seen. It is such a pity that the rest of his game was, in his own words, "a disaster!".
I dearly miss him.
God rest.
Andrew Kelly.
