JoanSARSFIELDMrs Joan Sarsfield, of Burnley Road, Huncoat, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 23, aged 75. She was a most wonderful wife to Tony, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Following her school years at Holy Family, Joan worked as a shorthand typist at accountants Sandyman & Walmsley, Nationwide Building Society, and Burnley Probation Office. Then, for 28 years, she worked at Accrington Victoria Hospital, serving for many years as secretary to the medical social worker, a ward aid, in the general office, and as casualty receptionist. During her time there, Joan made many good and loyal friends who kept contact after she retired in 2006. In her younger years Joan loved to be outdoors; she was a keen rambler, a member of several walking groups, and camping and caravan clubs, visiting many locations around the country. Joan was also a member of Accrington Flower Club, Huncoat Ladies Club, Accrington Yoga Club, a long serving member of the Dunkenhalgh Leisure Club, and many crafting and scrapbook groups. She was the most devoted wife to her husband of 55 years, Tony, who she met whilst dancing at the Accrington Conservative Club. Together they shared a wonderful and happy life, enjoying many holidays abroad, cruises and weekends away. Their favourite destinations were visiting their holiday home in North Wales, yearly visits to Nerja in Spain, cruising the Mediterranean, and visiting their son in Canada. Joan was the most loving Mum to Neil and Catherine, dear mother-in-law of Sue and Craig, cherished Grandmother of Harry, Georgia, Heather and Grace, a caring sister, relative, and wonderful friend to all those who knew her. Joan’s funeral service will take place on Friday, May 6 at 10am at St Joseph’s Church, Accrington, followed by burial at Accrington Cemetery at 11.30am, led by Fr Francis Wadsworth. Family flowers only please; donations are being received in memory of Joan on behalf of St Joseph’s RC Church c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
