MarySCHOLESPeacefully on 31.03.21 at the age of 75 in Royal Blackburn Hospital. Born Mary McTernan in Dromahair, Ireland, Mary moved to Bacup with her family as a young girl. She attended St. Mary's Primary School in Bacup and St. Ambrose School in Rawtenstall. She met her husband Joseph and had three children Marie, Sean and Joe. She worked in the shoe trade, including Bacup Shoe, for 20 years and enjoyed playing netball for Bacup Shoe. She was very active and creative and attended evening classes in dressmaking, German, woodwork and catering and enjoyed car boot sales, family holidays and nights out with friends. In 1996 she set up her own business with her husband Joseph and they ran the Corner Shop together in Whitewell Bottom. Kind-hearted and generous, she enjoyed taking care of her family and looking out for other people in the village. She also raised money for the local community through the R.A.O.B Club. She went on to meet her new partner James Armitage, who sadly died in 2006. Mary continued to work hard in her business until a stroke forced her to retire at the age of 69. She was in hospital for four months and had to learn how to walk again. In her retirement she enjoyed seeing her family, going on trips, fancy dress and gardening. She had a great sense of humour and fun and will be much missed by her daughter Marie, sons Sean and Joe and former husband and friend Joseph, her sisters Peggy and Kathleen and brothers Pat, Brian, John and Michael, her grandchildren Shannon, Kelly, Abbie, Lewis, Laura, Amy and Tom and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-niece. Service at St Peter's Newchurch on Thursday 22nd April at 11am, followed by interment at Rawtenstall Cemetery at 12:15. Funeral Director. Hello Mary, really sad to hear that you have left us, why did you do a thing like that! We had lots of laughs and good times but now I won't be able to bring you any more newspapers! You will always be in my thoughts and prayers...John.

Rest in peace, Mary. Thank you for all the lovely memories as a child growing up for both me and my sister - you were always there for us as a family when we needed you and lovely person throughout.
