I always had such admiration for you and how you lived your life to the full. All the places you’ve been to and all the extreme adventures you’ve had. You were so humble alongside all your achievements, a rare and beautiful soul.
You were so kind and thoughtful of others too and I know you supported and helped your friends in need.
We met diving in orkneys and I knew we would be friends from then on as we shared a love of adventure and being in nature. No one else but you understood me when I spoke of the beauty of early dark mornings watching bats and owls under the stars.

I truly valued your friendship and the time we spent diving and talking. One very memorable dive we spend 2 hours underwater just feeding and watching the trout as the sun rays shone through the blue.
I loved hearing about your cabin and the chickens you were so fond of. You were one of the stars that burned brightly.
I feel blessed to have known you and the world will never be the same again.
All my love xx

This world will never be the same without Richard in it, certainly mine is a much emptier place. To anyone who was lucky enough to have met Richard must have known they were in the presence of a true Angel on earth. He was a shining light that I was blessed to have met in this lifetime and it twinkled in those beautiful kind (but cheeky) blue eyes.
I only knew him for a few years but will be forever grateful that I got to know him at all. He was such a beautiful person inside and out, we shared a deep love of animals and nature and I loved the pictures he sent me of his encounters from around the world, in particular when he was on or in the water or halfway up a mountain. He was always there when I needed someone to lean on or just to listen and always had a way of making me feel better by saying very little that always felt like more. I wish I could have done the same for him. I will miss Richard everyday for the rest of my life but I am sure he is in a better place, where he deserves to be, and is at peace now. I will always visualise him in nature, surrounded by mountains, trees, water and the animals that he loved so much. I am sure that we will meet again someday but until then I will think of him fondly and miss him dearly every day.
Take care of my furbabies for me til I get there! I never said it but I loved you and appreciated all you did for me. Please send me a sign now and then xxx

Farewell Scotty, rest peacefully my friend. I will miss your council, your humour, the long chats setting the world to rights, our time in the mountains making sense of it all. You had remarkable sense of purpose that stood you well in everything that you set out to achieve and always with that characteristic charm and humility. There was always a plan, a scheme, a project, a new skill to master which you seemed to do with complete ease. Your boundless enthusiasm for adventure were so infectious and shone like a light to me. And always at the heart of it, a deeply thoughtful, considerate human being.

You've lived a wonderfully rich and fruitful life Scotty, never a moment wasted. But most of all, you were generous with the time and the friendship that you gave to those around you and I will always be grateful for the time you gave me.
John

Thanks again Richard for your friendship, the adventures, the mischief and sometimes just having a good muck around! Our fantastic trip to America in 1990 is never far from my mind. Also April 1993, the day after my Gran died you came round and suggested we drive to Paris for a break to take my mind off things. We went the next day, another very memorable event that sparked my love of Paris. Have visited Paris many times since, but might never have visited the city without your suggestion. Thanks again Richard, and hope to see you sometime in the skies above. Paul
