Hey Dad,

I wanted to send you a text but I’m worried someone else will have your number now and I’ll either 1. Be victim to some kind of horrible prank or 2. Have an overly sentimental conversation with a stranger and end up finding screenshots of said conversation set to terrible pensive music on Tik Tok.

Life has been very strange since you’ve been gone, and very lonely. I got married and you should have been there. Woody walked me down the aisle and I made him wear your bow tie. I’ve kept the outfit you were going to wear in a memory box. You would have looked brilliant. Dave says your hat would have made you look like a pimp. He is correct and I’m absolutely sure that’s why you bought it.

I’m still renovating the house. Whenever we do anything I want you to come round so I can show you. I’ve been using the outside toilet for over 6 months now since we ripped the inside one out. You’d find this funny, but would probably avoid coming over at all costs. It was fine in the summer but it’s bloody cold now.

Dave got the job he’d applied for before you died. He had to interview the week after you left us. We both caught covid from the hospital (very selfish of you to put us in that position, how dare you), so the week after you died we were both horrifically ill. Not dead though so you still win that one. Dave spent the night before his interview throwing up but still aced it as always. He’s doing really well now, you’d be so proud. We also built him a workshop and all of your tools are in frequent use. He’s honoured that you gave them to him.

I will say you dying and getting covid was very inconvenient given our wedding was the week after. I’m not sure how many people can say they planned their Dad’s funeral and their wedding at the same time whilst being in quarantine but we never did do anything conventionally. If you were going to have to die I’m at least glad it has provided me with a story that makes people grimace when I tell it to them.

Love you Dad xxx
