Sad to hear of Alan’s passing. A learned man, a dedicated minister and a diligent leader in the civic life of Rochdale.

Sorry for your loss to you and your family. I remember him as Mr Shackleton, I was a pupil at St Luke’s School, we had him doing our harvest festival and Christmas carol service, he was also a good friend of my great aunty Doris and auntie Edith who went to St Luke's Church

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Canon Alan Shackleton. I have fond memories of his time as vicar at St. Luke's Church in Heywood in the 1970s when my family attended. He very kindly returned to St Luke's in 2003 to conduct my dad's funeral. I will never forget when he attended a performance of "This Is Your Life" by St Luke's Girl Guides. I was Eamonn Andrews and my sister was Gracie Fields. He thought it was great. Canon Shackleton was also a super English teacher at Junior High School in Heywood in 1974. I will remember Canon Shackleton as a really kind and friendly man who had great charisma and wit.

Extremely sorry to hear of Alan's passing. He was a brilliant Mayoral Chaplain for my husband Rodney when he was Mayor. The two of them always had a good repartee no matter what.

I was very saddened to hear of Canon Alan Shackleton's passing together with all of us at St Chads, Rochdale where Alan served as the Town Vicar for so many years, even welcoming the late Queen to St Chads for its 800th anniversary in 1994. He was indeed a lovely man and splendid minister. We are planning a special evensong at St Chads later this month to celebrate ministry in Rochdale. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

I was so very sorry to learn of the sad passing of Canon Shackleton, former vicar of Rochdale Parish Church. I was privileged to have Alan as one of my Chaplains during my Mayoral year. I always enjoyed our conversations and his dry wit and sense of humour. I also valued his support. Sincere condolences to his family. Rest in Peace and Memory Eternal.
