Roy and Ade were two wonderful people I met whilst on teaching practice and subsequently teaching at Ruffwood back in 1979. I was fortunate enough to play football, cricket, golf and try surfing with Roy, and we had many a beer or ten, followed by the inevitable curry on a Friday night. He was someone that we all looked up to in a teaching sense and he taught me so much in my early days as a teacher. He was a generous, loving and very funny man and I have always been especially fond of Roy.
My sincere condolences to the lovely Ade and to John. I hope to catch up with you soon as I am unfortunately unable to make the funeral.
My very best wishes, Sir Ken ‘Archie’ Gibson

I miss him - on the day of his funeral we remember all the great times shared in his company. I first met Roy in 1981 when I joined Ruffwood and instantly he welcomed me into the staff group. We shared many nights out in Southport and shared lifts into Kirkby. We played football together for many years on a Friday night and again on a Sunday morning with many many stories and laughs. We even went on holiday together with our wives in the early years to Torquay.
A generous, kind, knowledgeable person who always was keen to share stories of great times. We visited together all sorts of venues and countries usually playing some kind of sport. Our last trip to Ireland last year was memorable and while playing golf each week we had already started to plan the next trip. It is very hard to realise he has passed. We miss him terribly. God speed dear friend.

We have lost one of the most generous spirited people I have ever had the pleasure and privilege to know. I am so glad we finally got our golf trip to my Donegal "home" last year. You are sorely missed Roy. RIP.

Roy was one of the best friends that I ever had. I am still in disbelief that he has left us.
