JohnSHERRINGTON1939-2023

Sadly passed away on the 29th September.

John was very well known in the Guildford and Godalming area: Everyone knew him for his larger than life personality and his quick wit! Dad had many caps: He played the drums for the Witley pantomime for many years, which he really enjoyed. Every Christmas he was a professional Santa! He loved nothing more than putting on his Santa outfit, knowing that he would make all the children smile. During the pandemic, he volunteered himself to do free zoom calls as Santa to children all over the globe, he was determined to ensure that children did not miss out on the Santa experience.

He also worked at Thorpe Park where he assisted on the rides, he had many a funny story to tell of his time there. RAF, police force, Godalming Tyre & Exhaust centre, Chaworth children's home, and many many more career achievements. He played the drums in many venues, including Ockford Ridge Social Club, many moons ago!

His proudest moments were the birth of his 8 children: Elaine, Julie, Tracy, Alison, Jacqueline, Claire, Mia and Glen. He lived in Knaphil with his partner Audrey and Dog Bowie.

Dad's funeral will take place: October 24th at 3:45pm, Guildford Crematorium, New Pond Rd, Godalming GU7 3DB, United Kingdom.

The family request guests to wear cheerful colours to reflect Johns personality. No floral tributes please. (kindly drop a donation to any local pet charity).

Afterwards at The Jack Phillips, High Street, Godalming.

John was such a comic and all round great guy to work with. There was never a dull moment with him around and the way he could make people laugh was a real gift!
I can only think of the laughs they are having up there with him!

I met John when I was 14 yrs old - without realising at the time he would so positively impact my adult life. I’m now 51 and look at my successes in life and everything I have accomplished and can honestly say, lots of my life decisions were made based on his words of wisdom and the unconditional love he was always so willing to give. Rest easy dear John, you will always be with me, love you 😘

Dear John Sherrington

It has been a pleasure reading and getting to know you on the "Godalming Town Past & Present" Facebook group over the last twelve years.

We only bumped into each other a few times, but always had many Godalming stories to share.
Your witty sense of humor probably got you into trouble over the years, but equally helped you out of many sticky situations.

I will always think of you whilst I ride about Godalming town, and will continue to add you to photos, so I know you are with us.

Take care and until we meet again, have a safe journey...

Best Regards

Dave King
