Uncle Jimmy taught me history at Calderstones and inspired me to go on and do a degree in it. He was passionate about his subject and a wonderful man whose legacy lives on through all the students he taught and inspired.

Condolences to Jim's family and friends from Frank Lawless and Sheila Lawless (nee Edwards). Sheila, Jim and I were all students in Liverpool University History Department (1959-1962). Later on Jim and I were colleagues in St. Kevin's Kirkby. Jim was a great friend, kind ,gentle and considerate. He was also a fine History teacher and an important member of the Historical Association. May he rest in peace.

Mr Shields, or Uncle Jimmy as me and my friends called him, was my history teacher at Calderstones School. He was such an enthusiastic teacher and a sweet and funny man. I've often thought of him over the years.
Sending condolences to his friends and family.

Jim was a lovely man. We originally met in 1982 at Merseyside Film Institute, and our paths crossed subsequently in several different contexts. It was always a delight to bump into him, especially at the Philharmonic in latter years. My condolences to his family and many friends on their loss.
May he rest in peace.
