Bill, my cherished friend! I will miss your kind heart, warmth and beautiful smile but will hang on tightly to the amazing memories - from our time as neighbors in Belgravia to my visit to Sydney and our long distance friendship between Australia and America. You will forever be in my heart. ❤️

I first met Bill in 1958 at Stoughton Barracks in Guildford at the start of our National Service. We served together all through the two years. On demob we met up frequently until he left on his £10 adventure. Later we reunited & on his visits back to the UK we would meet up just the two of us enoying great conversation with great food then with the other Queens Regiment Soldiers we would meet up to reminisce.

You will be missed old friend.

Bill will be sadly missed in England too, end of an era, he was the last of a great family of 9 Shipton siblings.

He bravely left for Australia on the £10 POM ticket at 23 after his Mum had died- I was only 6 but remember the family missing him, keeping in touch as best they could in those times. He made a life and worked hard to make a very successful business there.

Once established he returned frequently to England for happy gatherings and hosted various family visits to Australia. When his sister Shirley (my Mum) died he kindly rang her grieving husband each time he was in Europe. RIP with them all now Uncle Bill.

To Bill, my boss, my colleague, my mentor, my friend, my honorary big brother!

It was my privilege to have known you and worked with you and shared so much for all these years!

It sounds corny, but you really did do it your way!

RIP old pal - and let those other people there get some rest too!!
