MarilynSIMPSONMarilyn died peacefully at home at Carr Lane, Cowpe, Waterfoot, aged 87, on March 26 surrounded by her family. She was born in Lumb, Rossendale, attended Lumb Baptist Church, and trained as a nursery nurse. Wife of the late Eric Simpson they lived in Belbroughton, Worcestershire in the 1960s and 1970s, where they raised their three children. They later returned to Rossendale and in the 1980s and 1990s ran a small care home for the elderly at Brighton House, Waterfoot. A few years after Eric’s death, Marilyn moved to Cowpe in 2001 and enjoyed being part of the community, helping set up the Sunday School as a Community Hall and attending the church services there. Marilyn had many interests including history, astronomy, natural history, walking and gardening and was a member over the years of various local groups. Marilyn was much loved by her three children, Catherine, Shirley and Adam, son-in-law Vince, and four grandchildren, Becky, Toby, Lawrence and Will, and all her family and friends. A service will be held at Cowpe Community Hall on April 16 at 1.45pm led by the Rev. Alastair Whyte, to be followed by a cremation at Burnley Crematorium. Family flowers only please, any donations will be equally divided between Cowpe Community Hall and the charity ‘Reverse Rett’.
