HeatherSKILLINGMRS Heather Skilling, of Forest Bank Court, Crawshawbooth, passed away on Sunday, March 15, aged 76, at home. A teacher who began her career at Hazelhurst Ramsbottom, she became Deputy Head at St Mary's C of E School in Rawtenstall in 1975 until her retirement. Following this she worked part-time for the Youth Service giving advice to vulnerable young people in Bacup for 12 years. She was also a School Governor for over 30 years and Vice Chair for 12 years at BRGS. She was an active member of Kay Street Baptist Church, and involved for many years in Children's and Youth Work before becoming a services leader and Chair of the Churches Pastoral Group. She leaves husband Geoff, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Val and Neville and family as well as very many valuable and close friends. A funeral service took place at 11.30am on Wednesday, March 25, at Burnley Crematorium, conducted by Rev Matt Hirst, followed by a service of thanksgiving at 12.45pm at Kay Street Baptist Church. Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, suggested to Rossendale Hospice, Bacup Family Centre. Funeral director: Dawn Winfield for Fred Hamer Funeral Service, Rawtenstall.

Heather was a good friend and neighbour to me when I started as a nervous first-year at BRGS in 1959. She was then in lower sixth and often used to help me with my Latin homework in year 2. She made a massive contribution to education in the valley. A life well-lived.
