BettySMALLBorn in Longford, a Manley, to Samuel and Bessy, sister to the late Irene, Pearl, Olive and Sam and current brother Edwin, who she regularly referred to a 'Teddy' much to his displeasure! Betty always enjoyed dancing whether it be during the war at the 'General Wolfe' or in her latter years at Victoria Mews. She met her lifelong husband and soul mate Arthur during the war, when he managed to get leave from the Royal Navy and married soon after in 1947. Arthur and Betty were inseparable; shared many for 75 years and have a fine collection of cards from HRH Elizabeth and Charles. They enjoyed endless holidays abroad and build a villa in Portugal where many a happy holiday was spent. Both she and Arthur had a hard work ethic that provided a road out of the conditions they found themselves born into. Betty worked most of her life; many years on inspection at the GEC, and later at the Co-op stores in Proffit Avenue and Longford Square. She also offered holiday accommodation to overseas students First son Robert arrived rapidly in 1948 although Betty had a habit of getting the 2 dates of his birth and their marriage mixed up to raise many an eyebrow. Second son Ian was born in '57, although she regularly reminded him, she always wanted a girl! Grandchildren arrived with James Ellen and Rhys, who regularly shared summer holidays and Cheam Close was always Rhys' eating station prior to Coventry City football matches. Great Grandchildren Amara, Isla and Arthur followed in the last decade. Throughout her life her Christian faith was always a strong force and she spent many years in the mother's union at St Laurence's church Little Heath and in her later years attended the Church of the Risen Christ. The service will be held at Canley Crematorium at Charter Chapel on Friday 17th of March at 3.15pm. No flowers please.
