MarianSMITHPeacefully in hospital on Saturday, May 1, Marian aged 90, of Accrington. The devoted and much loved wife of Ken, loving and loved mum of Gary and David, dear mother-in-law of Angela and Philomena, cherished nan of Mark and Jenna, and great-nan of Lucas and Freya. Former Newsagent owner Marian, along with her husband Ken, ran the shop on Eddleston Street, Springhill from 1967 to 1972. Together they worked hard ensuring that the shop ran like clockwork, becoming well known faces in the local community. Following working in the shop, Marian began working in the office at Joseph Arnold’s where she took early retirement aged 57. Marian loved her companion dogs and always looked forward to being out in the open air for a brisk walk up the Coppice. Holidays were always a favourite time for Marian and Ken and many happy memories have been made with trips to Cornwall and in later years visits were enjoyed to Portugal to stay with Gary and Angela. In her younger years Marian loved to dance and it was through her dancing that she met her husband to be Ken, and together they enjoyed socialising at the local clubs in Accrington including the Canine Club and Brooks Club catching up with their many friends. Most of all Marian was a devoted family lady and proud nan who always looked forward to family visits when she would often treat them to some of her delicious cooking. Marian’s funeral service will be held at 12.20pm on Thursday, May 13 at Accrington Crematorium. All enquiries to funeral director Champ Funeral Service, Clayton-le-Moors.
