Today, I want to honour someone who has profoundly impacted my life—a man I am proud to call my father-in-law, yet who means so much more to me. When I lost my own father, I never imagined I'd find anyone who could fill even a small part of that void. But in Roger, I found a father figure who brought warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support into my life.
He showed me what it truly meant to be a family man. His dedication to his family is something I deeply admire and aspire to emulate. I watched him be a devoted husband, an incredible father, and an astonishing grandfather, and each role he played with such grace and care. His actions—big and small—spoke of a man who didn't just love his family, but who lived for them.
He offered advice when Andrew and I applied for jobs, bought a house, or thought about buying a new house. We went to see multiple houses together. He lent an ear when I complained about university matters and he did it with patience and kindness that was rare. And while he may never sought the spotlight, his quiet strength and humility made him a pillar in our lives.
As a grandad, he brought joy and wisdom to Lily in a profound way. Watching him interact with Lily reminded me of all the good a grandparent can bring—a mix of love, laughter, and lessons that will stay with Lily for a lifetime. His legacy, woven into the lives of his children and grandchildren, is one that will continue.
To Roger, I want you to know how grateful I am for everything you showed me and for the love and acceptance you gave me. You were not only a father to your own children but a father to me. Thank you for teaching me through your example what it means to be a husband, a father, and, most importantly, a good man. You are the man I aspire to be.
Thank you for all that you did and all that you were. You are loved beyond words, respected beyond measure, and cherished beyond time.
