JoyceSOUTHMIiss Joyce South, of Henley House, Whalley Road, Accrington, died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, March 11, aged 87. Joyce leaves cousins Irene and Brian and families, as well as many close friends including Frank, Kathleen, Barbara, Pat, Marion, Paul, Shirley and Michael. Joyce was the only child of Mr and Mrs Oliver and Doris South of Lonsdale Street, Accrington. She was a talented singer from a young age and sang with St Mary Magdalen’s Church Choir. Joyce then sang with many choirs including Bel Canto Theatre Group and the Red Rose Singers up until her retirement from singing in 2013. Joyce spent her working life in office administration until her retirement to look after her mother. During the care of her mother, Joyce met with her close friend the late Barbara with whom she spent many happy times supporting Barbara in her care for Barbara’s grandsons Harry and Archie. Joyce also enjoyed many happy times on holiday at St Ives Hotel, St Annes with friends, including her late friends Doris and Doreen. Joyce was also a carer for her late Uncle Fred and Auntie Mary. Whilst resident at Milnshaw Gardens, Accrington, Joyce was a valued member of the community and thanks go to Sue, Pat and Margaret for their friendship and support of Joyce. Joyce was also a member of Elim Pentecostal Church, Accrington and enjoyed their company in her home - even if she was unable to attend church services. Thank you to Nesta and Katie and their colleagues at Henley House, Accrington for making Joyce’s later years comfortable and happy. Also thanks to Accrington District Nurses and staff on Wards C22 and C14A, Royal Blackburn Hospital for their care and empathy. A private funeral service will be held on Friday, March 19 at Accrington Crematorium at 1.40pm, led by Pastor Frank Andrews. Joyce has requested that attendees wear colourful clothing.
