Dr. PeterSOUTHIt is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Peter South, a cherished family practitioner in St Leonards, Hastings, Sussex. Dr. South passed away peacefully at home with his family on 1 June 2024 at the age of 88.
Born in Stratford, East London, Dr. South dedicated his life to the service of others. His career as a family practitioner was marked by an unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of his patients. Known for his compassionate care and excellent sense of humour, Dr. South made a lasting impact on the community of St Leonards and Hastings, as well as in Kent where he worked as a locum GP.
Dr. South was not only a devoted doctor but also a caring family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Marie South, his daughter Cluny, and his treasured grandchildren, Orlanda and Arlo. His family was a great source of pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
In addition to his medical career, Dr. South was a man of many talents and interests. He was an avid woodcarver during retirement and in his younger years a dedicated long-distance runner, participating in the Brighton-London marathon. Dr. South also had a passion for music, often filling the house with piano music. His love for nature was evident in his avid bird-watching, both at home and in exotic locations abroad.
Dr. South was also a gifted writer, with several published works to his name. His writings, much like his life, were imbued with a deep sense of care for others and a good sense of humour.
Dr. Peter South will be deeply missed by his family, friends, patients, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A service will be held for those who would like to come together and celebrate his life at Charing Crematorium, Ashford, Kent TN27 0EB on June 26th at 10.30am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of UK.
