TonySOWDENOn Saturday, September 7, peacefully, after a long illness, in White Ash Brook Care Home, aged 91 years, formerly of Accrington and Blackpool.

Beloved husband of the late Esther, much-loved dad of Anne, treasured grandad of Mark and Neil and a dear father-in-law of Garry.

Tony was born in Heckmondwike and moved to Accrington with his parents, Randle and Jenny, as a baby, living in Manor Street. After five years in the RAF, he returned to Accrington, where he met his late wife Esther in 1956. Snooker was always a huge part of his life. Tony was the Observer Snooker Cup Champion in 1958, 1969 and 1970. He worked for E J Riley, but in 1979 moved to Blackpool, working for Blackpool Billiards. He later took over the business, growing it throughout Lancashire.

After retirement, Tony and Esther enjoyed spending time together and with their daughter Anne and grandsons Mark and Neil. They had many wonderful holidays around the UK and Europe. Sadly, Esther died in 2004. Tony continued to holiday in their favourite destinations, the Canaries, Ibiza and Greece. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV, mainly snooker, cricket and football. He also enjoyed quiz shows, especially his favourite, Countdown.
As his health deteriorated, he moved back to his roots, where he spent his last 14 months at White Ash Brook Care Home.

The family would like to thank the District Nurses and the team at White Ash Brook Care Home for their care and support.

The service took place on Wednesday, September 18, at Accrington Crematorium.
