Vera MaySPIERSIt is with great sadness we announce that Vera, of Bosley and Congleton, (previously of Moss Cottage, Cocksmoss Lane, Marton) passed away suddenly on Friday 26th Feb 2021 at Macclesfield D.G. Hospital, aged 86. The date would have been her daughter Janet's 60th birthday. Vera survived her beloved husband, Brian Trevor Spiers, by 54 years (deceased 2nd April 1967), and her youngest daughter Janet by only one year (deceased 21st Feb 2020). Vera was the dearly loved, mother of Stephanie, Andrew and the late Janet, mother in law of Julian Alston and Helen Connolly, and proud grandmother to Charlotte and Abigail. Vera was the only daughter of William Siviter Knight Fielding, furniture store proprietor in Spring Gardens, Buxton and May Eveline Fielding (nee Heafield). In life, Vera was a valued and longstanding nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Macclesfield Hospital, and also ran a dog kennels in the 70s and 80s. A strong woman who inspired independent women before her peers, Vera will be sadly missed by all who knew her but especially by her surviving daughter Stephanie who had been her friend and support in her final decade. A small private committal will take place at Macclesfield Crematorium in the coming weeks. This may be followed by an outdoor memorial service in summer when rules allow. Donations, if so desired can be made in Vera's memory to The Salvation Army. Please honour and remember Vera now, in your own special way. Vera was an honest, hardworking, caring soul that always found time to help others. After losing Brian so young, and with three young children, Vera committed her early years to them. But once grown, Vera found a new vocation working in Macclesfield hospital's intensive care unit where her diligence, commitment and love of people shone through. I never heard Vera ever complain, despite the rough deal she was dealt in life. A really decent and compassionate human being, and a great grandma.
