Anthony JamesSPOONER(Tony) aged 62 of Arnold Street, Accrington passed away suddenly at his home on June 6, 2023. Tony was the beloved son of the late Dora and Walter. He was also the much-loved brother of Christine and brother-in-law to David. Dear uncle to James, Ellie and Hannah and Great Uncle to Freddie, Aubrie and Leo. Tony spent his early years in Huncoat, he attended St Anne’s Junior School and later Holy Family Secondary School. Tony served in the Royal Navy for nine years between 1981-1990 on the submarine HMS Trafalgar based in Plymouth as a marine engineering mechanic where he travelled all over the world. He moved back to Accrington in 1996, where he worked at several local companies including Asda and most recently the Arndale Centre. He had many interests and was a well-read, intelligent, engaging man. Tony was a passionate lifelong Burnley Fan, he was a season ticket holder and also attended many away games with his good friend Les. Tony was a dog lover, in particular his two Jack Russell’s. He enjoyed family get-togethers and was always kind and generous. He was a popular and well-liked character who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Tony’s funeral will be held at 1pm on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Accrington Crematorium and afterwards at the Hapton lnn, Hapton. Family flowers only, donations are being gratefully received in memory of Tony for Carers Link (Lancashire) who support unpaid carers across Lancashire c/o Hyndburn Funeral services, Queens Road, Accrington.
