Margaret AgnesSTEPHENSONMrs Margaret Agnes Stephenson, of West Crescent, Accrington, died on Saturday, May 30 at Pendle Brook Care Home, Oswaldtwistle, peacefully with her daughter by her side. She was 96. She will be missed so very much and was loved so very much. She leaves a daughter Sheila, son David Roberts, son-in-law Tom, and daughter-in-law Trish, five grandchildren Jayne, Sarah, Amy, John and Victoria, and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Robert, Samuel Thomas, Amelia and Morgan. Margaret was happily married for 70 years to Bob Stephenson, who died in 2012. She worked during World War II at Howard & Bulloughs in ammunitions. When her husband eventually returned from his National Service they both worked at Howard & Bulloughs, then Lupton Bros and finally Prestige, Bob as a supervisor and Margaret a clerical assistant. Bob retired in 1985 and Margaret then worked for a short period as a dinner lady and playtime assistant at St Christopher’s and Accrington Girls High School (now Accrington Academy), and finally as escort taking special needs children to and from school. Once they both retired completely they continued to enjoy their sequence dancing and travelling around England, Scotland, Wales and Europe in their caravan. They would frequently disappear for a month at a time to Benidorm or Fuengirola in Spain to their favourite hotels in winter. I would like to thank all staff at PALS surgery, Accrington - especially Dr Roberts who was there to talk to when we needed her and the poor GP who was told off by Margaret for having his hands in his pockets. Special thanks for Nurse Michelle Haworth who treated mum for many months and was so kind and caring. Thanks to Royal Blackburn Hospital nurses at C3, especially Lauren. Last but not least all staff at Pendle Brook Care Home, Oswaldtwistle for their care, compassion, understanding and help in the last two weeks of Margaret’s life. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, June 10 at Accrington Crematorium. Donations if desired to East Lancs Hospice. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington.
