MildredSUTCLIFFEThe extended family of Mildred Sutcliffe, formerly of Manchester Road and Manchet Street, Castleton are saddened to announce.
Mildred passed away peacefully on the 27th of December, after having received the last rites, in Marland Court where she had been looked after by caring staff for over three years.
A well-known and much-loved Castleton resident all her life, educated at St Gabriel's Catholic School, Rochdale, then Bury Convent. Mildred was a staunch practising catholic in the truest sense of these words.
After becoming a teacher, she taught at St Gabriels, St Wilfred's Catholic Schools where her colleagues were also her closest friends.
Her life revolved around the schools, her interest in drama and the fact that she was an expert seamstress/dressmaker led her to participate in all the school, parish, and many curtain theatre productions.
Over a considerable number of years. Mildred was a tireless worker for the Holy Catholic Church too, her faith bringing her to St Gabriels most days for Mass and assisting the successive priests to navigate a community she knew so well. Also, a long-standing member of the catholic women's league, she attended regular meetings at all levels and was a major contributor. Mildred was steadfast in everything she did, she had a lasting association with Springhill Hospice, volunteer of the year 2009, actively supporting this organisation and will be remembered by them and all the above mentioned.
Rest In peace Mildred
You were so loved.
Funeral to take place on Tuesday the 6th of February, 10.00am at St Gabriel's Catholic Church Castleton followed by interment at 11.30am Rochdale Cemetery Bury Road.
