I just found out today.
My sincere condolences to Helen and her family.
Joan has been a wonderful pen pal for several decades. Thank you for your countless letters and your visit with Helen in Germany back in the summer, when the Chernobyl catastrophe happened.
Rest In Peace
Love,
Ria and Frank

Joan, you were a one off. A kind, good person who told me many things about my family history that I would never have known. A great sense of humour who enjoyed life. At peace now.

My respect and admiration for Joan was huge. A wonderful personality, witty sense of humour and a very ‘real’ person of our times. I think we understood each other and often the same thoughts. Helen was blessed to have her and also so was Joan to have Helen (her one and only). I was privileged to share many a lunch with them both, and Tom also, when he was home from university.
Through Joan and Helen came my pre-introduction to the Catholic Church. I treasure the missal they bought me on my acceptance and especially the little holder and cross made by Joan herself. May she RIP and perpetual light shine upon her.
