EllenSWEENEYPeacefully in hospital on 4th December 2022, aged 87 years. Beloved wife of the late John, loving mam of John Paul and Helen, and best friend and adoring nana of Jessica. Sadly missed by all of her family and friends. Please meet for funeral service at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel on Thursday 22nd December at 11am, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. I used to work with Ellen at the Council Housing office on Park Road, Wallsend, in the 1980s. I just wanted to say to Helen and Paul how sorry I am to hear this sad news. I’ve got a lot of good memories of Ellen from those days. I was her section head, but somehow she still managed to regularly send me along to the ‘Men Only’ Club at lunchtime with John’s sandwiches. How could I say no?? I remember when we were short of players for the office 5-a-side team, she told us she could recommend a first rate footballer to fill the gap. It turned out to be Paul. (He was first rate, of course!) And there weren’t many women in the office who were as keen as Ellen to chat about Newcastle United. She was a real character with a heart of gold and she’ll be very much missed. Dave Bell.
