My husband was a curate in St Luke’s church in Cheltenham about thirty years ago and happened to conduct a funeral of Charles’ father. He did not know him but spent some time with his wife Pauline in preparation of the funeral and got to know her well. She was very happy with the funeral service and we became good friends with her and Charles afterwards. She even added it to her will that Gary should conduct her funeral too. This however did not happen as Gary later became ill and the first sign of his strange degenerative neurological illness was that he became dyslexic and could not read. It was to do with his brain. We have fond memories of them both and are very sorry that we can’t attend Charles’ funeral. We live in Bournemouth now and Gary is in a nursing home. Charles was a kind, caring and loyal friend to us and we will miss him. RIP Charles.
