What a fantastic Grandad, and a remarkable life. When I was a child, he was a happily retired man, generous with his time and had the most eclectic and impressive vegetable patch in all of Stoke-on-Trent. Marrows, beans, tomatoes and even pumpkins, you name it, he could grow it! Later I learned of his incredible fortitude and stories of his youth. From winning bicycle races in his home town in Italy and a stint in national service, to working in a mine and a long career as a bus driver in Stoke. So many life experiences and so many stories to tell. He will be sadly missed.

Love from Gareth, Lauren, Evie and Owen x

As a kid I used to love visiting and staying over. Popping across to his allotment or being fed and given bags of broad beans and peas from his garden. Oatcake breakfasts and bowls of lentils. Giant marrows with no idea what to do with and fried courgettes that I couldn’t get enough of. His love for growing veg and cooking ‘random’ things definitely influenced me and my love and interest in food. As an adult I learned about his life and upbringing, his bold move coming to the uk and his sheer hard working ethic that made him a life here. I couldn’t have asked for a better grandad.

Much love
Karl, Hannah and Robyn x

Dearest uncle Joe was the sweetest uncle any niece could ever wish for. I have such fond memories of visiting him as a child, eating delicious oatcakes in his kitchen, him showing us his beautiful garden and amazing cactus flowers, and one of my favourite memories of him in more recent years is when we visited him in our little motor home and he climbed up the steep steps to look inside and had a huge smile on his face sitting in the back. We will miss him so much. Love Santina and Steve xx
