Margaret ElaineTHOMASThe funeral of Margaret Elaine Thomas from Connor Downs, Hayle took place on Thursday 25th March 2021 at Treswithian Downs Crematorium. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all staff on the Tintagel Ward at Treliske Hospital for their care and kindness throughout her short illness and for the cards and messages of sympathy received from family and friends following her passing. Thanks also to Father Neil Potter for officiating at the service, to those who attended the funeral despite current circumstances and to everyone who lined the route to pay their respects on the way to the crematorium. Special thanks for the donations received in memory for her chosen charities, Breast Cancer, Multiple sclerosis and Marie Curie and to Caleb and his team at David Hendy & Sons for their empathy & thoughtfulness in carrying out her funeral arrangements. Elaine was born the 14th January 1938 in Truro and spent her childhood attending both County and Truro High School for girls. Elaine subsequently worked in Lemon Street Truro for many years establishing many friendships throughout her life and maintained these until she passed away. During 1963 Elaine met Harold and they were engaged in 1965. Elaine got married in July 1966 at St Mary Clement Chapel with a reception at Tregye. They honeymooned in Switzerland, before starting married life in Penware Parc, Camborne. Sadly, in 1967 Elaine gave birth prematurely to her first child, a son named William John who was subsequently buried at Penponds church. In 1968 Elaine welcomed the birth of her first daughter Joanne and in 1969 her second daughter Margaret & Katharine completed the family unit in 1971 and Elaine enjoyed a unique and close bond with her daughters throughout her life. Elaine enjoyed participating in many organisations and social events– Brown Owl, Circuit Wives, Barripper Ladies club, MS Society, Darby & Joan, Crowlas Coffee Mates. She also enjoyed many coach trips on a Sunday and again established many friendships. Elaine also supported many religious settings over the years, including St Mary Clement Chapel Truro, City mission Truro, Threemilestone Chapel, Truro and Camborne Wesley, Penponds Church, Barripper and Connor Downs Chapel. In her younger years she enjoyed many a happy time with her family and cousins at Perranporth, playing in the sand dunes, together with Polly Joke in Newquay, where she requested many years ago for her ashes to be scattered. Over the years Elaine was delighted to welcome her grandchildren, James in 1989, Lorna in 1992, Daniel in 1996, Matthew in 2000, Sophie in 2001 and Freya in 2004. Elaine always felt privileged that she had 3 of each and talked so proudly of all of them, they were indeed her absolute world and she treated them all equally. Elaine’s health started to deteriorate over the last 12 months, but that did not stop her for enjoying her life with family and friends and even the recent pandemic did not stop her keeping in touch. Elaine was also blessed with her sons-in-law over the years, who looked after her like a mother of their own and dotted on her. She spent many occasions holidaying with friends and family, both abroad and in the UK. Her favourite holidays were those spent with the girls and her grandchildren and she reminisced only recently about these. She enjoyed many coach holidays with her friends Gloria, Beryl and her oldest and dearest friend Rosalind. Some of these trips included WI, Darby & Joan, CDRA, MS Society, where she was secretary, Flower Club and Gardening club. Family mourners were Joanne Lello-Dunn, John Dunn, Margaret & Richard Hosking, Katherine & Matthew Elkin (Daughters & son-in-laws, James, Daniel & Matthew, grandsons, Lorna, Sophie & Freya, granddaughters. Barrie & Sheila Jones, Diane Martin & Marcia Willcocks, cousins, Rosalind & Cliff Willis, Martin & Karen Trestrail, Trudy Sharp, Kim & Lorraine Moore, Helen Salmon, Tean Gray-Roberts, Margaret Lello, Alex Pascoe & Sarah & Robin Trethowan, family friends.
