Roger NicholasTHOMASA huge loss. Roger of Barnstaple & Lynton (formerly of Portishead, Bristol, Sandhurst, Germany, Beaford & South Molton), died peacefully on18th April 2024, aged 92, his daughter at his side.

A Captain in the Royal Tank Regiment, Roger went on to be a mechanic & racing driver, an antiques dealer and model engineer. A smart man of short temper and many faults, but he was great company and good fun, with a dry wit, an irreverent sense of humour and an abundance of charm.

A hugely loved Pops, Dad, Grandpops, Bup, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and friend. He didn't suffer fools gladly and liked dogs more than people for the most part. Known for his love of women and cars, not necessarily in that order. He had great resilience and was not afraid of making brave decisions.

Currently seeing if the grass is greener on the other side, he leaves this life a lot less colourful without him.

Funeral service to be held at St Anne's Chapel, Paternoster Row, Barnstaple EX31 1SX on Wednesday 8th May 2024 at 12pm, followed by private burial. Dress code - bright colours welcome.

In Roger's memory, donations are welcome for Age Concern Barnstaple and the Blind Veterans Association. Many happy past memories from the 1950s & 60s when Roger had garages (GT Engineering) first in Woodberry Lane and then in Highland Square, Clifton. The local watering hole was the Port O' Call in nearby York St. Roger raced his then partner Vikki's 1959 Mk 1 Lotus 7 with notable bravura and some success at local club events for several years. Later, when a antique dealer, he used to visit me in Somerset on the way home from buying expeditions in London.
His last remembered words to me were: "I was always certain that one day I wold be fabulously rich; however I am beginning to think I may have left it a bit late". Requiescat in pace.
