As with others, I have known Alasdair for over 30 years since meeting at University in Sheffield. As we got older, work and family commitments meant we did not meet up as much as we would have liked, but when we did meet up it was like we had only seen each other the previous day, which demonstrates what a good friend Alasdair was, not only to me but to his other friends and work colleagues and explains why this is so hard to write and such a shock to lose him.
When we met up, not matter how long it had been since the last time, it instantly brought back many memories. Now we only have these to remember him by, but they are the best memories, and they will never be lost or forgotten.
We had the best conversations, he thought his opinion was always right of course, and he got more sure of that the more beer we consumed, but on occasion he would concede that he may not be as right as he first made out, so ending that particular conversation and another would immediately start with him on the front foot as always!
He was my best friend at university, the best man at our wedding, and Jo and I miss him.
Always a family man at heart and fiercely proud of being Scottish, it was no surprise that he would settle in his beloved country. He was so proud of Lesley and their children and spoke about their achievements all the time and how he loved supporting and encouraging them in what they wanted to do.
Rest in peace.
