DouglasWALKER(Chapel House) Peacefully on 17th March aged 76 years. Douglas (Doug). Beloved Husband of the late Ann. Dearly loved Dad of Fiona, David and the late Lorraine and Father-in-Law of Mark. Grandad of Andrew, Rebecca, Ben and Daniel. Also a dear Brother of Anne and the late Gordon and a dear Brother-in-law of Colin. Cremation at the West Road Crematorium on Monday 30th March at 11:45am. My thoughts are with Doug's family at this very difficult time. I have known Doug for a number of years (around 24 years) He was involved with Blakelaw School during the time of the closure threat and was very supportive and interested in the career decisions of my son. My own path was fortunate to cross with Doug several times over the years. Lately through Newcastle Vision Support. Doug I found to be a very genuine man with a very keen interest in people. His gentle strength makes him a man to be remembered and appreciated.

I first met Doug around 16 years ago when he welcomed me as a volunteer with Tynesound News, a talking news and information service for blind and visually impaired people. He was then and remained until his death Chairman of the charity and worked tirelessly for its benefit. He was a kind and gentle man and I admired him greatly. It is so sad that because of the current pandemic restrictions many of us will be prevented from attending his funeral. I shall be thinking of Doug and his family on the day. Rest in Peace Doug.
