DorothyWALLACEDorothy Wallace, of Granville Road, Accrington, died on Tuesday, June 9, aged 90. When she left school Dorothy worked as a telephonist at the telephone exchange, in the days when calls were connected manually. She left to marry, and look after her children and later worked as a wages clerk at Ewbank and Imperial Mill. Dorothy was a very independent lady whose life revolved around her family and she kept an open house for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and their friends. She became a silver surfer on the internet to keep up with them all. She lived in the same house for over 50 years and became matriarch and friend to her neighbours. She loved her garden which she tended until very recently and she took a keen interest in current affairs, local and family history and the history and culture of places she visited. Dorothy was the wife of the late Allan Wallace for 60 years. She was the devoted mother of Alison, Sheena and Rhona, gran of Matthew, Catherine, Elena and Bethany, and great-granny of Rhys, Ruby and Aila. Due to Covid restrictions, a small family service was due to be held at Accrington Crematorium on Thursday, June 18. Family flowers only, with donations in Dorothy’s name to Age UK Lancashire.
