BarbaraWARDMiss Barbara Ward, of Baxenden, died peacefully at home, aged 82, on Thursday, December 3, following a long battle with cancer. After moving to Accrington from Chorley, she attended what was then Spring Hill Junior School and Accrington High School. A two-year demonstrators course at the Royal Technical College, Salford led to her spending several years as a demonstrator with the North Western Electricity Board. Based in Barrow-inFurness, she covered the southern Lake District. Subsequently she was part of the staff training scheme with Singer Sewing Machines, a Home Economics Instructor at HMP Styal and finally a lecturer in Home Economics at Accrington and Rossendale College until her retirement. A long-time member of Soroptimist International, she was twice president of the Accrington club and later joined S.I. Rossendale. Barbara also had a long connection with Guiding from her early days as a Brownie, through to being an active member of first Accrington, then Rossendale Trefoil Guild. She is survived by her sister Hilary. The funeral will be held on Thursday, December 17, at 11.40am at Accrington Crematorium. Donations to East Lancashire Hospice, Blackburn. Funeral director: Wolstenholmes Funeral Service.
