Geoff’s hearing was already declining when he came to the very first meeting of the Swansea Hard of Hearing Group in 2008. He had been a loyal member and very regular attender at the monthly meetings. He continued to come in his mid-90’s although his hearing was very poor by then. He will be fondly remembered for his friendly good humour but especially for his broad Lancashire accent. This was strongest when, at our Christmas parties, he recited from memory lengthy humorous poems by Marriott Edgar. We enjoyed Albert and the Lion and The ‘ole in the Ark. In 2020 we had a virtual party and he gave us Uppards, a parody of Excelsior by Longfellow. Preserved on an amateur video, it gives a great example of his zest for life. (by Doug Adams)
