James Jim MorrisWATKINSWATKINS - JAMES (JIM) MORRIS, 6th May 2020. Peacefully at Ysbyty Gwynedd Bangor and of Llannor, Pwllheli aged 97 years. Loving husband to the late Marian, caring father to Madeleine and Katherine, proud grandfather to Ellen, Alice, Emma and Sophie and great-grandfather to Marian. Eldest son of the late George Albert Watkins and May Morris. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1942 where he built and repaired radio transmitters with the Allied Forces in Egypt. After the war, Jim took professional exams to become a Weights and Measures Inspector and worked his way up through the ranks for 25 years in Stockport, Cheshire. There, Jim and Marian raised their two daughters and spent their summer holidays caravanning and travelling. Jim had a lifetime passion for classical music, opera and jazz. In the 1970s, Jim took early retirement and began the next chapter of his life. He and Marian restored two 16th century cottages on the Llŷn Peninsula and settled in Llannor where they made gold and silver jewellery, hallmarked as "J&MW". They hosted classical concerts for young up and coming musicians and raised money for restoring the Community Centre in Llannor. Described by many who knew him as a true gentleman, Jim was caring, kind and gentle. He was proudly independent throughout his life, yet loved to bring people together to share his appreciation of theatre, music and the arts. Due to the present situation a private funeral service will be held at Bangor Crematorium, but donations will be gratefully received in memory towards The NHS per Ifan Hughes, Funeral Director, Llanaelhaearn.
