DerekWATSONMr Derek Watson, of Old Gates Nursing Home, Blackburn, died on Saturday, May 14, aged 90. Following his national service in Germany, Derek returned to his native Lancashire and began work as an electrician at various companies in the Accrington, Rishton, Simonstone, and Great Harwood areas. He retired from TML Plastics in 1994, and was much missed for his humour and straight talking. Derek was a homebird, and loved his dogs, his family, and the English countryside. He liked to listen to a wide range of music, especially country and western. He could often be heard singing solo at the former Dale Street Working Men’s Club, where he loved to socialise on a Saturday night. Derek sadly passed away having fought a brave fight with dementia. He leaves behind his devoted wife Annie, and his children Derek, Linda, and Jean. He is father-in-law of Elaine and Stephen and the late Paul. He also leaves five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Derek will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The funeral will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 1pm at Accrington Crematorium Chapel, led by Neil Overton. Family flowers only please, with donations if desired to the RSPCA c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Accrington.
