Stanley John (Stan)WELLSIt is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of our Stan. After a short but brave battle with cancer, he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. A former primary school teacher and Secretary of Billingham Catholic Club, he was also a poet, a performer and a raconteur. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was the devoted husband of Muriel, beloved brother of Michael, a wonderful father and grandad to John and fiancée Jo, Bridey and husband Ian, Elliot, George and Madeleine. He was a friend to many. Funeral will be held at Stockton Crematorium at 1pm, Friday 26th May. Donations in lieu of flowers to British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

Poem for Muriel and family, in honour of Stan

It’s ok with me:

It’s ok to be happy
It’s ok to smile
It’s ok to be sad
And shed a tear for a while

Whatever’s right for you
Is ok with me

Our memories are precious
---- Enjoy life ahead
Enjoy the summer sunshine
Enjoy the singing birds

Enjoy the rippling river
Or a quiet tranquil day
Of quiet contemplation
Of how we used to be

Whatever’s right for you
Is ok with me

With loving thoughts from Julie and Dave Merrington and family xx

The Glint of your Glasses

A life well loved,
yet so much more to love,
Well read - and read well.

As Student and Teacher we will remember you:
The poet, your acerbic wit,
Funny and analytical
Intellectual and political.

Your repartee, the twinkle in your eye, the glint of your glasses.

Your smile.

You loved Byron and Keats
the minds of Lennon
and Dylan -
even when the answer’s still blowing … but the question’s unknown.

A fan of music, plays, films and books
Lines and lyrics painting the truth.

Your turntable, ever spinning, your stylus consuming the broadsheets (with Northern Echos of local scene),
Submerged in underground vibes, never following the herd, Searching for the undiscovered,
Listening for voices unheard.

So you will be remembered Stan,
a loving husband, father, grandad, brother and friend.
A family man; you played with style in life, partnered by your loving wife.

You left the field so early,
And how we wished for extra time.

Rest in Peace Stan

With love,
Carole & Dave, Gemma & Jack Chandler
