RichardWESTOf Icconhurst Close, Baxenden passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, July 9 at The Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 72 years. The dearly loved husband of Sheila, brother of the late Alec, Richard also leaves his brother Peter John, sister-in-law Joan, nephews Christopher, Andrew and Jonathan and nieces Nicola and Lisa. Richard attended Peel Park School and Accrington Tech before beginning an apprenticeship with Howard & Bulloughs. After qualifying as a draughtsman, he worked for a number of firms in the North West and finally at Cavendish Nuclear in Birchwood, Warrington prior to his early retirement dur to ill health. In his younger, fitter days, Richard was a keen walker. He also enjoyed a game of snooker. In more recent years, he enjoyed crown green bowling at Burnley Road Bowling Club. When he no longer continued with the bowling, Richard’s main interest were the occasional “flutter” on the horses and watching TV. He particularly liked the programmes based around the Police Force and Sheila used to joke with him that he was a “frustrated Policeman”. Before his health deteriorated (and along with it his appetite) Richard loved his food. Nothing could beat a good Chinese Takeaway so far as he was concerned. Family flowers only please, but donations can be made, if desired to the British Heart Foundation. For details of the funeral, please contact Wolstenholme Funeral Service on 01254 232604.
