If you never met Peter, you have missed a light in your life. He was usually to be found standing outside his door in Yardley Wood Road, smiling and talking to everyone and anyone who wandered past. I got to know Peter when he offered to deliver leaflets for me. I then found out he knew my husband, who used to cycle past his house to work at Billesley Police Station in the 90’s. Peter was very interested in the police and they found shared passions for motorcycling, golf and football. Peter was a Brummie through and through. Born in Pendeen Road, Billesley he moved to Yardley Wood Road with his family when the new houses were built opposite the Covered Wagon and stayed there after his mother passed away. He worked for Lucas’ as an HGV driver but later became carer for his mother who had Motor Neurone Disease. I’m told he was a talented footballer and loved to kick a ball around with the neighbours children. He also loved his garden and holidays in Prestatyn. Peter went to the Police tasking meetings and introduced me to the local Housing Liaison Board. He was a committed representative of his community and never missed a meeting. If there was an issue to raise in the neighbourhood, whether ASB, fly tipping or a broken street light Peter would be onto it. In the words of a neighbour ‘Peter was always a visible presence and will be a huge loss to our community’.
I shall miss Peter for his gentleness, his smile and his light hearted banter. He always stood up for others and never complained or asked for anything for himself. He was a true gentleman.

Peter, a Dearly Beloved cousin and Friend - a Golden Man.

After moving to Canada in 1957 we had lovely visits with him, his Mum and Dad, Brothers Bill and Norman and family on our trips to England.

He loved his garden, and we always did the grand tour. He planted seeds sent from Canada to keep us there with him.

We talked often on the phone, laughing and putting the world to rights.

He never missed a birthday or special occasion. His cards written in beautiful calligraphy writing.

If we are fortunate in our lifetime, to cross paths with a person or people who leave an indelible inspiration - a feeling of joy-Peter was such a person.

His presence we will miss.
His memory we treasure.
Forgetting him never.
Loving him forever.

I met up with Peter in 1977 when I joined Lucas Transport. He was one of many drivers that made me welcome. Our friendship bonded closely also with my family and friends who were all very fond of Peter.
‘Ginger Pete’, as he was known by many, was always happy and smiling at any events that Lucas Transport put on. He would be there, always dressed smartly, in his suit and tie and you’d find him with a brown and mild in his hand chatting with everyone. He would have been a great family dad. He was always keen to know about our 3 lads and what they were up to through their lives.
Peter enjoyed his sport – football for Warrener & Mason, cricket, golf & bowling with Lucas Transport, marshalled for motor rallies - and even parachuting.
Peter will always be thought of as a really genuine bloke, being interested in others no matter what was happening in his life.
I know that Peter will be greatly missed by all of his remaining work colleagues, friends and, of course, his relations but his smiling face will be with us all forever.
