JohnWHELANOur favourite author, now at rest,

Your life, a tale we knew the best.

Born in Ireland, a spirit bold,

June 23rd, ‘52, your story told.

In Plymouth, on July 13th, you lay,

Surrounded by love on that final day.

Gillian, your partner of fifty years,

Love and friendship through joys and tears.

Daughters Rebecca, Samantha, by your side,
Grandchildren Louise, Daniel, Harry, your pride.

Your words, a beacon, always there,

Guiding us all with love and care.

Brother Ed, sister Karen, they recall,

Your laughter, stories, shared with all.

At sea, you sailed with courage high,

Navy tales beneath the sky.

Milkman's routes, insurance days,

Taxi driver's friendly ways.

Retirement found your heart's delight,

In poetry, your soul took flight.

With Liskeard Poetry Group,

Sharing thoughts with your favourite troupe.

People's lives, your stories wove,

In every heart, a treasure trove.

Today we bid our last farewell,

But in our hearts, you'll always dwell.

In every tear and heartfelt sigh,

Your love endures, though we say goodbye.

Awaiting you at heaven's door,

Are your dear parents and sister, whom you adore.

Until the day we meet again,

Our favourite author, now forever penned.

Celebration of Life to be held at Weston Mill Crematorium on Friday August 2nd at 9:15am.

To Gill, Rebecca, Samantha and families. A beautiful poem for our dear Uncle John. The words spoken at his service this morning were testament to his great love for his family, his pride in his Irish roots, his talent and creativity for the written and spoken word and his sheer integrity as a person. We always remember fondly the stories our mam told us of their years growing up together in Dublin. How John minded her so well, as little ones, and especially on their school journeys. She took great pride and interest in the many adventures he undertook during his seafaring days and it instilled in her a great love for travel. She was always very proud of John, Gillian, Rebecca, Samantha and families. We will cherish our memories of him always and we are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. With love, Frank, Karen, Louise, Caroline and family xxx
