DorothyWHITTAKERFormer secretary and wages clerk, Mrs Dorothy Whittaker died at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Thursday, September 29th aged 86. Mrs Whittaker was born in Rawtenstall and worked in various jobs, including a cotton mill, Mullards Factory in Waterfoot, Dickenson Transport/TNT and running her own women’s clothes shop. She loved home life and enjoyed visiting Rawtenstall Centre, the market and Longholme Church coffee mornings for a chat. She enjoyed dining out with her family and watching snooker on TV. She was also a member of Rawtenstall Cricket Club and a lifelong member of Longholme Methodist Church. She survives her late husband and leaves her sons David and Neil and their wives Tove and Victoria, grandchildren Tom, Sarah, Jack and Lily, brother Frank and his partner Janet, sister and brother -in-law Mary and Ian, nephews and niece. Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, October 19th when a service will be held at Longholme Methodist Church, Rawtenstall at 11am Conducted by Rev David Burrow followed by a service and committal at Burnley Crematorium at 12.15pm.
