The earliest memory of my grandad is hard to specify because as a child I have so many, I’m not sure if the trips to Blackpool to see the illuminations, throwing a ball back and forward at Brueton park, playing board and card games or being in the garden and the smell of fresh tomatoes in his greenhouse came first.
When I had my daughter Bethany, he would love to see her, again playing games and colouring, coming to her Nativity plays and getting her to go on his scooter. Each time we visited he got the ruler out and marked her growing against the door, memories that I know Bethany cherishes and will remember always
Later in life Grandad started to do his family tree which I tried to help him with, away of sharing his earlier life, he would often repeat the same stories but that was ok, each time I would try and ask a different question to share in his memories.
It wasn’t long after Chloe was born that grandad went to live at his care home so whilst on maternity leave I would often take Chloe to see him, he was so proud and loved to tell everyone how old she was, she shares the same middle name as her great grandad, grandad and uncle and will share in the memories of him as she grows up.
We love you grandad, will never forget you and will always cherish our time together
