For some reason, I just decided to go the CV site by chance – must have been a second sense. Was really saddened to hear of Peters death. I still remember the day I stayed late after school in year 1 to hear the brass band rehearse, and Peter introduced me to a whole new world. Being in the band under Peter was a changing point in my life, and what came from it shaped my whole career. I was aware of his gigs playing a Vox continental in dance and lounge bands, and by year 4 I was copying him, alongside another band member – Richard Furlong – gigging at clubs and parties. This baptism of fire led to all the work I did as a session keyboard player in the 80’s and 90’s then as a composer for TV and film. Like most musicians careers there’s usually a few people/defining moments that you can pinpoint that changed the course of your career. I can pinpoint 4 people. Peter was the first. Wherever you are I thank you for your heart and your passion, and being a leading light in my childhood,
Simon Etchell

I was at Cray Valley Tech while Mr Woodward was teaching music and leading the choir and school band - quite the most inspirational teacher I ever had - a most kind and considerate man - sorely missed. John R Gurnett

I remember Peter Woodward with great fondness. I played Baritone in the School Brass Band at Cray Valley, which Peter inspired and led during my years at the school. He shaped the band with dedication and flare so it was able to perform at school concerts and many external events, including a spot on Blue Peter, and make several records. Peter made a lasting contribution to the school, and had a positive and confidence-building effect on many of its pupils, including myself. Kind wishes to all his family from Peter Curran.
