Dear John. Sadly I came to know him towards the end of his life. The first thing he asked me was always ‘and how are you?’
He really was interested in you as a person, he wanted to know about your life, your day, what you’d been up to. He had very little to report about his own life towards the end, yet he was never bitter or sad , always the opposite, chipper, positive,upbeat and grateful for anything you did for him.
He was fascinating to chat to, he obviously led a full and very interesting life. It was clear he was a highly intelligent chap and always had time for and a love of people, especially his family whom he talked about on each occasion I visited.
I shall miss him
