Fishwicks was started in 1967 by John Fishwick, after he had served his time with his father, John as a joiner and undertaker. John along with his wife Valerie built the business up and in early 1980’s gave over Joinery to concentrate solely on Funeral Directing.
On retirement of other local funeral directors, they expanded Fishwicks to cover Arnside, Kirkby Lonsdale and Kendal. In 2007, they purchased Edmondson Longmires in Windermere which they run alongside Fishwicks.
In 1990 their daughter, Jayne, became a funeral director and in 2004 younger daughter, Kate also joined the business. Fishwicks Funeral Service then became Fishwicks Ltd in 2004 with the four family members as directors. Fishwicks was located in Milnthorpe until 2007 when it moved to the present location at Beetham Hall.
